Of Dog and Baby!!

Baby S enjoy being with Oreo and our dog love him very much too.

Giving up dogs over baby is a very lousy excuse. Pets are for life, if you can't commit don't get it.

July 26, 2010

Dogs are babies best friend too!!!

Both my dogs love Baby S to bits. Oreo has been a fantastic dog minus her barking. She would dash to me when Baby S cries or make the slightest noise(we human ears cant hear).

Giving up your dog over baby is an irresponsible act. If you are not sure whether you can handle baby and dog together, then don't get a dog in the first place. They will never understand why you abandon them, they will love your child as much as they love you. If you don't give them the chance, the right guidance towards baby, they will never have the chance to love your child.

It took me so long to capture this moment.

Goodbye Itchy Itchy Scratchy Scratchy!!

Finally we managed to get Oreo's skin problem in control. The solution to her skin's problem was Avoderm lamb and rice kibbles. She is strictly on kibbles and fruits now, she has since stop scratching herself and her bald patches has started growing furs.

I must admit I wasn't a big fan of commercial food but I have to give in cause its the only answer to the skin problem which has been haunting us for almost 3 years.

I don't know when she started being so allergy to food but well I thank God that everything is under control now.

In Deepest Loving Memory of Ng-Chen Ah Boy (1998 - 30/01/2010)

Boy has gone home with God today. Its the hardest and most painful decision we have to make to let our love one go.

3 weeks ago Boy's muzzle and throat started swelling. He rejected all form of food and water. Monday we bought him to see vet, he was given 3 jab (anti inflammatory, anti swelling, appetite booster). Vet suspected that either his ear infection had inflamed his lymph node or he had Lymphatic Cancer

He came home slightly better and swell came down by a bit. He eat on Monday and a bit on Tuesday. He stop in taking any form of food and water since Wednesday. His swelling got worse and drool badly. He cant even swallow his saliva and was ubber weak.

This morning we brought him to the Vet again. Vet advise that the treatment would only prolong his life for another 1-2 days and it would be better if we put him to sleep as he is in pain, misery and his quality of life is very compromised. We ask how long will he last if we were to bring him home, Vet advise it would not be too long and he would die of hunger as he does not intake any food.

Hence we make a very painful decision to let him go, to end his misery and pain.

We are missing him badly now!!! But we know he is at a better place with no misery and pain.

Goodbye Old Man!! You are safe with God. Run free over the rainbow bridge.

Christmas Gift

Have you been giving? Have u received your gift? If you don't spend Christmas meaningfully, it just another commercial public holiday. Lets not forget the less fortunate on such meaningful day, its a blessing to be able to share.

This year I donated 10Kgm of kibbles to the shelter, nothing really much, just hope that the less fortunate doggies at the shelter have a better Christmas and the amount of kibbles Anderson consolidated able to last them for a while.

Hubby bought me SK-II whitening mask, this Mother to be really need a good whitening mask after all the sun tanning I got from the swim.

Vet visit

Oreo's skin problem is back, Im suspecting that she is allergic to the detergent. Dr Ling gave her a steroid jab and prescribe some anti fungal medication.

The other day, Boy was leaking blood from his penis. Luckily its was an one of incident, we really got scared out of wits...... Dr Ling check him and advise that his bladder and penis is normal, his urine sample does not have any blood nor extra protein in it. Back to his ears problem, Dr Ling suggest to flush his ears under sedation. His ears improved tremendously after 2-3 rounds of medication prescribed previously, but the ears condition is still not 100% optimal.

We make an appointment on 22/12/2009, send him to clinic in the morning, pick him up in the evening. I really pray that he can take the sedation well after all he is no longer a young chap.

Total damage done for the day: $109.00

Boy enjoying his car ride. As usual!!!

The Man's Birthday

This month we celebrate HB and Boy's Birthday. We dont know exactly when Boy's bday is but he came to our place last year August, so I told HB to celebrate his birthday together.

During lunch time I went over to OG to get Bday card and pressie. Bought HB a new gun toy, he had the smaller version hence this time round I bought the medium size version. There is the Large and X-Large size version, but too bad, his preggy wife cant even lift up the large one off the rack not even to mention carrying it ard.

We had dinner @ Lau Pa Sat together with my mom. My mom bought him a Adidas bag and she nvr bought any bag for me before. >.<""

Head home and had a mini celebration with Boy. This old man was very confused why we were singing bday song and why there is a piece of cake with 2 candles burning in front of him. Poor Boy is suffering from diarrhea for 3 days....

The Man"s"!!! (Initially I on the flashlight and the photo turn out to be a disaster...... I try to edit it with photoshop and it still look bad.)

Oreo and Boy. (Its amazing how both of their friendship grew, they slp beside each other now)

The pictures are slightly abit better after I switch off the flashlight.

Does he look like a 11 yr old dog?

Oreo.

Last but not least HB's pressie.

Medication

Boy's test was back from the lab, vet called me to discuss abt the treatment and finalise the medication to be prescribe to him. HB went to collect his medication, the first thing he told me on the phone was: "A LOT of medication and its TWICE a day". Its not easy to get an old man to guai guai tk his medication, we use to battle with him every morning to make him swallow pills. After a while we gave up and gave in, we put his medication in canned food and push it into his mouth.

Boy, we are starting to count your medical fees in thousand!!!! You BETTER get well soon!!!

Damage done today. Plus the earlier on lab test was another $90. All in this time round was $180++

WCDR Outing

Initial plan was to go for a swim at clup4paw but Boy Boy and Cookie flunk the behaviour's test. We change our plan and head for WCDR.

Oreo had a fun day running ard making friends. I guess with addition of Boy, she now know how to interact with other dogs better.

Boy got into a fight....... He was fine with cookie and some other dog. When this dog came and wanted to hump him, my Boy didnt gave face. This Oji-i-san, although is very old, but he is not a old dog tt can be bullied. When the dog try to hump him, he grabbed him in his mouth. Luckily he didnt bite, cos when we asked him to let loose, the dog didnt suffer any punctured holes. Nevertheless, I apologised, no matter whose fault it is.

He was fine with another owner and allow her to pat him. Haiz this Oji-i-san had been surviving well in the street for the past 10 years, he is just no those tamed domesticated dogs. Old dogs doesnt mean weak dogs.

Cookie is HB army time friend's newly adopted dog.

Adopt not Buy

The other day I were flipping thru the newspaper in the office and  chance upon SPCA's advertisement. It kind of touch my heart. My first dog, Buffy, is adopted from SPCA 5 years ago. An abandon dog has now become the Empress Dowager of the family. The family has to dine at places that are dog friendly so that she can tag along.

She was adopted during my poly days. During exam period, I have to often burnt midnight oil, she never fail to accompany me till late night. At least I dont feel so lonely when burning the midnight oil. She will wait outside the toilet, be it I were doing business or bathing.

I have a total of 3 dogs now. Buffy, Oreo and Boy(my dad's retire dog). Dogs are the only animal in this world that will love your more than itself. If you have time and ready to commit for a 15 years companion, do consider to adopt. The amount of $$$, love and time you will definitely get 1 million times back from them.

Apple Cider Vinegar

I have been searching high and low for cures for Oreo's skin problem. Google has been my best friend lately. Oreo nvr had any problem until we switch her to a special slimming diet kibbles. Well, she lost weight with hefty price. The kibbles got her into a 2 years fungal problem tt nvr recover. Initially was furious outbreak, then slowly it become shedding bald patches, occasionally either the eye or some part of her body get swollen.

I got sick and tired of visting vet and listening to different side of stories. Steroid, antibiotics and anti-fungal can only subside the symptom for a while, after the effect is gone, her fungal comes back again.

I changed from different brand of kibbles to different type of meat source. I were even crazy enough to even put her on vegetarian diet. Nothing works, I were close to giving up. Recently I have chance to start looking into web for more information abt what causes her nvr "heal" fungal problem.

I decided to give natural cures for a try. First I change her diet to BARF (raw food), use natural handmade organic soap for bathing and add ACV to her diet. TADA!!!! It works, I have not notice any new bald patches and the old ones are starting to grow furs again. I might consider to add flaxseed oil or coconut oil if necessary.

Do google for the benefits of ACV, human can consume it too. Those who are slimming, ACV does help to boast metabolism rate and help in losing weight.

Organic Apple Cinder Vinegar

Natural handmade soap I bought from Hong Kong. (I'll try to learn how to make the soap)

Boy Boy

After watching Marley and Me, I was rather inspired to write more abt my dogs.

Boy Boy was my dad's guard dog at the shop house but he is now officially retiring at our home. Due to his guard dog nature, he tends to be aggressive. I seriously witness how aggressive he can get, the wound left on the groomer thigh was no joke. I met him 10 yrs ago when he was a puppy, he stay with us a few mth and he got too big to stay with us, hence Dad bought him back to shop house. On our 2nd meeting, he greet me with growling. Nevertheless I still manage to be able to bath, detick and walk him.

He gone thru all the puppy training, Im amazed how much a 10 yr dog can learn. He doesnt understand a single command and we were busy cleaning his pee and poo everyday. Today he is 70% toilet train, 100% outdoor train, know sit command, know how to shake paw and walk well on leash. He got used to our house rules rather quickly and is more well behaved than Oreo.

The aggressive dog we know was gone, he is a gentle and obedient boy.  Everyone comment he is a cute boy!!! I personally find him a very expressional dog.

Taken during his daily walk, he was wondering how come HB stop and start taking pictures.

This was taken during his first outing with us. See how happy he is.

Buffy & Oreo

Oreo has some white furs at her chest, perfectly suit the black cookies with white cream.

3) Name an endearing characteristic of your dog(s)

Oreo is forever busy dog. She can be busy for nothing. With her ard its hungry dog festival 24/7.

4) What has your dog(s) trained you or anyone to do?
Buffy is so scare of cutting nails. Whenever she know u have the intention to cut her nails she shiver like mad. The best thing is you didnt breathe a word abt cutting nails..... My mom will start nagging and I think she kept the nail cutter from me. >.<"' Oh well my mom bring her to the groomer to cut her nails. She alway say Im a dog abuser....... and she rather pay!!!!!! *roll eyes*

The Chronicle

The Naggy Old Hag(OK its Me), The Hungry Dog(aka Oreo) and The Grouchy Old Man(aka Ah Boy).

Just Joking.... Muhahaha LOL.

We believe in training our dogs. We reward them with food whenever they obey each command. No yelling. no screaming, they will sit obediently while waiting for their food to be serve.

A dog has only 1 master

That explain why dog are loyal. I were reading E's blog and cant agree more with this post she blogged. When the dog dont recognise you as the master, no matter how you yell/scream/jump, I guess it doesnt really matter to them.
